Renowned Metrology Community Publishes Technical Paper on Merits of GWP®
METTLER TOLEDO (Switzerland) - METTLER TOLEDO is pleased to announce that the National Conference of Standards Laboratories (NCSL), a respected organization serving the world of measurement, recently published a technical paper, "GWP® - The Science-Based Global Standard for Efficient Lifecycle Management of Weighing Instruments." It explains the merits of GWP®, the science-based global standard for efficient life-cycle management of weighing instruments, established by METTLER TOLEDO.

Out-of-specification results can have devastating consequences, particularly for the pharmaceutical and food industries. At best, they can trigger expensive and reputation-damaging recalls; at worst, they can physically harm consumers. To avoid those situations, companies must take measures to ensure weighing accuracy in their processes. The task can seem daunting; many companies don't know where to start. GWP® provides a clear path for safe and accurate weighing when it counts the most.

The paper, which appears in the September 2013 edition of the Journal of Measurement Science, explains the state-of-the-art strategy for reducing measurement errors and ensuring accurate weighing results. The paper further addresses many widespread misconceptions regarding test procedures and periodic performance verification. Following the scientific principles of GWP® allows an optimized routine testing scheme and gives solid guidance on how to avoid unnecessary or erroneous testing depending on the user's weighing requirements and weighing risks.

"We are pleased that NCSL has recognized the merits of GWP® for ensuring safe and accurate weighing," says Marianne Portmann of the METTLER TOLEDO Good Weighing Practice™ Competence Center. "There is so much that goes into ensuring weighing instruments meet regulatory requirements and enhance product quality. GWP® is an excellent help in navigating the lifecycle management for weighing instruments and we are proud that the NCSL has acknowledged this."
