Aircraft Weighing System by Giropes

Giropès SL (Spain) - Press Release: Giropes has designed and supplied a weighing system for the FlyBy flight school for the weight control of their aircraft.

FlyBy is a flight school based in Burgos which has recently expanded its facilities at the Garray Aerodrome (LEGY) where it has begun to instruct pilots of multiple nationalities to help them obtain their various licenses, from PPL to ATPL.

The school has a fleet of 19 aircraft and more than 17,750 hours of flying experience. The FlyBy school wants to guarantee their over 200 students and their instructors the highest possible flight safety by controlling the weight of the aircraft and the correct load centre.

Safety is one of the most important issues regarding vehicles and it takes on even more value when concerning planes, light aircraft and other types of aircraft. Within this issue it is essential to have exhaustive control over the weight, as well as an exact calculation of the centre of gravity so that it may be controlled in the three axes of the apparatus in order to provide stability in flight.

Furthermore, as far as the legal part is concerned, following the approval of a new Royal Decree, the competent authority will impose more severe sanctions on light aircraft that exceed 600 kg (650 kg for seaplanes). In addition, insurance companies will be able to avoid responsibilities in the event of an accident if it is proven that the aircraft took off with excess weight, which is why the portable weighing system ensures that the MTOW (Maximum Takeoff Weight) of the aircraft is within the legal parameters before take-off. This new regulation adds yet more value to the aircraft weighing protocol.

In order to have exhaustive control of the weight of its entire fleet, FlyBy has acquired a set of 3 PMR platforms. The PMR platforms are ideally suited for recreational aircraft wheel weighing and are easy to transport, making them very easy to use.

Their anodised aluminium construction and the inclusion of two non-slip rubber feet make it a sturdy and safe platform ideal for weighing any type of vehicle, with easy access to the platform, something vital for any aircraft repair shop or airfield service areas.
