Thayer Scale-Hyer Industries, Inc. (United States) - In this role, you will take responsibility for assigned engineering projects for made to order equipment. Duties include review of customer’s requirements, custom design and adaption of products, project coordination from inception to final acceptance and some field follow-up. Responsibilities will also involve engineering maintenance of specific product lines including product improvements and cost reductions. Applicants must be capable of technical analysis, hands on design, directing technical support people and the coordination of a number of concurrent projects, working efficiently with Autocad (2D) and Inventor (Solidworks) (3D) software. Electrical experience is preferred but not necessary. Knowledge of LEAN and DFMA experience is a plus.

Detailed Job responsibilities:

• Responsible for the coordination of the mechanical and electrical design activity of assigned jobs with department’s drafting personnel (through the Engineering Supervisor). Approve all drawings and create bills of materials using company ERP system.
• Perform mechanical and electrical drafting as needed using Autocad and Autodesk Inventor.
• Comply with the Department’s Sales Order Flow Chart and see that all of the required steps are carried out in a timely manner.
• Evaluate and confirm equipment specifications and sizing for both new and proposed applications.
• Maintain all necessary calculations in a neat and organized folder.
• Interface with sales, material control and manufacturing as well as customers and vendors.
• Keep informed on progress of the project(s) following production release, advise supervisor of any delays which would affect delivery.
• Take engineering responsibility for assigned product line(s).
• This includes:

1. a) Setting up standards for equipment selection, sizing and application.
2. b) Taking initiative in making product improvements and cost savings where feasible.
3. c) Writing or revisions of standard style instruction manuals if applicable.

• Review quality, equipment specifications and final test data before authorizing shipmeny
• When required provide assistance to other engineer’s.
• When required, travel to customer’s location to confer on project design or to aid the Service Department in critical situations
• Other engineering and company related duties as assigned.
• Interpret and apply company policy and rules.
• Interact with manufacturing, engineers and drafters to design cost effective components.

Required Skills and Experience:

Knowledge:

• AutoCAD or equivalent.
• Autodesk Inventor or equivalent.
• Comprehensive knowledge of mechanical engineering theory and design and the ability to apply this knowledge to practical problems.
• Design basic electrical diagrams.
• Perform calculations using algebra and trigonometry as well as basic machine design theory and practice including stress analysis, weld sizing, shaft design and material selection.

 Skills:

• Good verbal skills and confidence in dealing with a wide range of people.
• Precise and concise written communication skills
• Organizational skills such as time and resource planning
• Good computer skills (Microsoft Office Products).
• Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerance (GD&T)

 Abilities:

• Initiative, creative ability and sound judgment.
• Must be able to operate in fast paced environment working with numerous projects at one time with multiple deadlines.
• Insure designs are accurate, complete and finished in a timely manner.
• Select and apply basic mechanical, pneumatic and electrical components.

Education/Experience:

• BSME with 1 years related experience or
• BSMET with 2 years related experience or
• Associates Degree in Mechanical Engineering with 5 years of related experience. President’s approval required.
