Air-Weigh (United States) - Minnesota-Based Owner/Operator Gets It Right Every Time Thanks to LoadMaxx Tractor and Trailer Scales.
No trucker wants to reload a trailer because a trip to the scale shows it’s overweight. But it’s one thing to have to do it with inanimate freight. It’s another thing entirely to reload livestock.
Hayfield, Minnesota-based Masching Transport hauls livestock, particularly swine, and knows just how important it is for the loading process to go smoothly. Not only are living animals more difficult to keep loading and unloading, but biosecurity concerns make it almost impossible if one of the animals is found to be unhealthy.
With seven trucks covering 600,000 miles a year, owner Jason Masching has to weigh each truck 30 times a week. Constantly driving to in-ground scales – only to find out even occasionally that a load is overweight and has to be reloaded – is a complication the company cannot afford.
Air-Weigh on-board scales proved to be the solution. In 2012, Masching deployed LoadMaxx tractor scales and LoadMaxx Plus trailer scales to ensure he would know the exact weight of every load before closing the trailer.
“There is no room for mistakes here,” Masching said. “Before I would find out the average weight of the pig and count out how many pigs I could fit on the trailer. If the average was 350 pounds I would do the math. But I would not put that last pig on. What if he’s 351? Now I know the exact weight I’m loading, as I’m loading them.”
Masching also emphasized the ease of hooking the tractors with the various trailers without disrupting the scale operations, as well as how easy it was to install and calibrate the scales accurately. These are among the reasons he declares his loyalty to Air-Weigh scales.
“I’ve used scales from other manufacturers, but I always end up sending them back,” Masching said. “Quality is the reason I am very happy with Air-Weigh scales.”
Air-Weigh will be previewing a new scale model at the American Trucking Associations Management Conference & Exhibition from October 14-17 at the Austin Convention Center in Austin, Texas. Trucking companies who want to experience the same benefits are encouraged to attend the show and see for themselves what Air-Weigh has coming next.
