METTLER TOLEDO has launched its new range of flexible XPR precision balances which are designed to speed up weighing processes, simplify sample preparation and support the kind of process efficiency that enhances accuracy, reduces rework and lowers the costs thanks to features such as user guidance and data management.
New XPR balance models also include the SmartPan™ weighing pan. This innovative pan delivers results in half the time by minimizing air-current effects on the weighing cell for significantly shorter stabilization and better repeatability—even when weighing in a demanding environment such as a fume cupboard, production environment or high-traffic area.
XPR precision balances remove the guesswork from sample handling by guiding users through the weighing process via built-in applications or saved customized methods. The results of each step are displayed on the balance notepad where users can add comments and export data, and ability to print barcode-ready labels ensures results are attributed to the correct step. This avoids sample mix-ups, ensures accurate formulation and creates process traceability.
The new XPR precision balances adopt additional and noticeable features such as the StatusLightTM on the weighing terminal indicating to the user that the balance is ready for weighing and the digital LevelGuideTM which notifies the user of the leveling status of the balance.

The installation of load cells into a hospital bed application requires careful attention if the system is to be safe and accurate. The performance of a load cell depends primarily on its ability to deflect repeatedly under conditions when load is applied or removed. It is a misconception that a load cell can be considered as a solid piece of metal on which hospital beds can be supported. Furthermore, if more than one load cell is used then the deflection and output of each individual cell should be similar on each load point. To satisfy the above requirements, load cells are mainly used in conjunction with special mounting systems rather than being mounted rigidly between application and foundation.
The sensing or spring element of the H8C is the main structural component of the load cell. The element is designed in such a way that it develops a strain, directly proportional to the load applied. The sensing element is made of high strength alloy steel (nickel plated for environmental protection). By bonding strain gages to the precisely machined element, the force applied can be identified in terms of resistance change. The four strain gages are connected into a Wheatstone bridge configuration in order to convert the very small change in resistance into a usable electrical signal. Passive components such as resistors and temperature depending wires are used to compensate and calibrate the bridge output signal. Sensing elements which are subjected to beam load cell types are widely used, in many configurations, for commercial transducers. Shear beams, such as the H8C, offer high strain levels at relatively low forces, which makes them ideal for high accuracy load cells.

Rinstrum’s R325 Indicator is an indicator specialised in luggage-weighing. The pre-programmed functionality allows for easy monitoring of both the aggregate weight and the number of bags to ensure that preset numbers of bags and weight limits are not exceeded. EasyFill is a particularly cost-efficient software application that does not require complex programming in a PLC. The application is a simple solution for batching liquids, powders and granules. In this process, the electronic weighing system also controls the necessary batching signals (coarse, fine) via integrated digital inputs and outputs. The software has been pre-installed in the weight transmitters PR 5220 and PR 5230 and the weight indicator X3 and offers precise batching results through user-specific and configurable set-point, tolerance and overshoot values.

The PTW allows for either static or in-motion (dynamic) train weighing with the flexibility to weigh the single axle, bogie (truck) or full railcar with highly accurate individual wheel weights. The wheel load sensor WL 400 can be used as LSWIM system up to 20 km/h and has a capacity of 30 ton per axle. Disregarding the influence made by external factors, the sensor itself has an accuracy of 2%.
The entire system composed of two sensors, one position frame and four levelling mats weights-in at approximately 50 kg and fits into a trunk of a personal car. Due to its light weight, the strip sensor WL 400 is easy to transport and can be used at any time without the need of fixed installation. As an alternative the sensor may be placed into a recess in the pavement for tolling and freight management applications.
The sensor has no display and is completely overrun able. Its signal is sent to the PC via a rugged cable. The further processing, visualization and printout is performed by a personal computer with the software EC 200.
The software SPC@Enterprise combines classic filling quantity control with dynamic process control for a wide range of different systems, thereby efficiently supporting quality management of production processes. A centralised data management prevents redundancies: Master data are created centrally in SPC@Enterprise and are therefore available on all devices. An automatic transmission of the measured data to the database esures that all data are immediately available centrally for evaluation and output in production and calibration statistics.
