Kistler KiTraffic Digital

KiTraffic Digital is the ultimate Weigh In Motion tool to protect road infrastructure. Thanks to an unmatched accuracy of up to 2%, it enables detecting overloaded vehicles with maximum hit rate. KiTraffic Digital operates regardless of lane changes and road quality, contributes to road safety by detecting vehicles with flat tires and features highest uptime thanks to integrated health monitoring.

In the late 1990s, Kistler revolutionized the Weigh In Motion (WIM) market with the world’s first quartz-based WIM sensor. 20 years later, KiTraffic Digital stands for the next revolution.

The demand to efficiently enforce overloaded vehicles is growing globally to ensure road safety and protect the road infrastructure, as vehicle weight heavily contributes to road damage.

Accurate and reliable WIM data, which can be used in front of court, is crucial to directly enforce overloaded vehicles. Existing WIM technology struggles to meet this requirement, as road properties or driving maneuvers can turn measurements invalid.

The KiTraffic Digital WIM system overcomes these limitations. It allows to significantly increase the hit rate of enforceable overloaded vehicles. This improves efficiency in weight enforcement, as every single vehicle on the road is weighted precisely and penalties can be issued automatically. Besides overloaded vehicles, KiTraffic Digital also detects flat tires in order to reduce the number of unsafe trucks on the road.

The core of the innovative system is the Lineas Digital sensor. Seven published patents emphasize its novelty value. By processing the signal of each single quartz disk separately, the following new values are created:

  • Most accurate WIM measurements (up to 2%), as mechanical tolerances are compensated
  • Reliable WIM measurements, independent of driving maneuvers (e.g. lane changes) and road conditions (changing road stiffness)
  • Detection of tire type (single / dual tires) and status (flat) with the very same sensor
  • Less installation effort as no inductive loops and no additional sensors are required
  • Monitoring of sensor health status enables efficient maintenance and highest uptime

Combined with the industrial grade electronics, the new Lineas Digital sensor and the KiTraffic Digital system clearly increase efficiency of ITS solutions such as Weight Enforcement or Electronic Toll Collection.
