Bizerba (Austria) - Bizerba to present the CWL Max flexx at the PostExpo 2013.

At PostExpo 2013, the international Exhibition and Conference for the World’s Postal, Parcel and courier industries in Vienna from October 1st to 3rd, Bizerba will be presenting the CWL Max flexx, a dynamic weighing scale based on four-load-cell weighing technology. Through the combination of two weighing conveyors, it achieves a throughput of up to 9,500 packages per hour at a speed of 2.7 meters per second. It is 30 per cent more effective than a classic single dynamic weighing scale and therefore the right choice for the use in high-speed sorting systems of Courier Express and Parcel Service providers.

At the sorting centers of CEP service providers, parcels of different length run over the checkweighers of the sorting systems in chaotic order. In this context it is necessary for the weighing belts to be adjusted to the length of the longest parcel. The problem: small parcels are weighed quickly but have to run over a comparatively long weighing belt until the next parcel can follow. With classic single weighing scales, possible throughput is therefore given away. This means that throughputs of up to 9,500 parcels per hour which are now required before line sorters, or at low speeds of approx. 7,500 parcels per hour behind high performance singulators, cannot be achieved.

The solution: two combined weighing platforms increase the throughput by 30 per cent:
To increase the throughput, with the CWL Max flexx, Bizerba has combined two weighing belts. The system recognises the length of the arriving parcels on the basis of the duration of the light barrier’s occupancy. An example depending on the distribution of parcels at 2.4 meters per second: All small parcels with a length of up to 600 millimetres are weighed on the 1.1 meter long weighing belt – the shorter weighing belt which is .6 meter long exclusively serves as a transportation belt in this case. For larger parcels of up to 1.2 meters in length it is then activated as an additional weighing belt. With this combination of two weighing belts, the output of the weighing system increases by up to 30 per cent from 5,000 to 7,500 packages per hour.

Dieter Conzelmann, Director of Industry Solutions at Bizerba, explains: "We have received approval from the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (German Metrological Institute / PTB) and the International Organisation of Legal Metrology (OIML) to approved run belt speeds of up to 2.7 metres a second at weights from 25 grams up to a theoretical value of 600 kilograms. By using several weighing cells it is possible to achieve the maximum flexibility for different applications, explains Conzelmann: "With this multi-cell weighing technology we can realise belt configurations of 1,200x3,000 millimetres without losing any weighing accuracy – and at a measuring time of 200 milliseconds and less."

Straightforward integration in higher level systems:
So that no hidden costs arise subsequent to the purchase of the double scale, Bizerba has prioritised the ability of the scale to be installed and calibrated rapidly on site. It is open to all interfaces (Ethernet, ProfiBus, ProfiNet, etc.) and can therefore be integrated straightforwardly in higher level systems. The user can also connect scanners, cameras and volume measurement systems without any problem. Conzelmann: "Practically any technician can carry out dynamic adjustment with the help of a digital assistant and compensate for any disturbing influences. In the case of malfunctions it is possible to access the checkweighers via the internet, to analyse faults, rectify them quickly, and reduce any corresponding downtimes."
